For five years, I designed pages of Britain’s most popular paid-for newspaper, The Sun: one of Britain’s biggest mouths with a readership of approximately 3.5 million per day.
I began my job working on the editorial floor in the news department for around two years before moving over to the features team and being given a lot more creative freedom.
On the print edition, I worked across all of the Sun’s features brands including Bizarre, Biz On TV, Fabulous Daily, Motors and The Sun’s columnists. I designed pages concentrating on the layout and typography, colour correction and retouching of photographs and designed supporting infographics competently using Adobe design tools.
I also worked on The Sun’s promotional brands such as Sun Savers, Hols for £9.50, and its weekly Mrs Crunch (sponsored by Morrisons). I produced blurbs, adverts as well as full advertorial pullouts. In addition, I worked on The Sun’s advertising partners promotional material for Legoland, Alton Towers, Chessington, SEA LIFE, London Dungeon plus more.
